INTRODUCTION - BIO - WORK HISTORY
Always in abundance, joy, and gratitude
A visual work history:
Advertising - Equestrian - Photography - Artwork - Writing - Speaking - Music - Athletics
Whether as an artist, an equestrian, or an athlete, I love to inspire people to release their inner "fun person" and succeed in their discipline of choice.
Equestrian - a lifetime with wonderful horses and a specialty that led to successful re-schooling many off-track thoroughbreds for a second career in the hunter, jumper and dressage arenas. I had extraordinary mentors and teachers who contributed to my experience in the industry, and I turned professional in 1983, combining a variety of skills to produce the best horses and riders possible with a holistic approach. In 2012, after retiring from full-time training, I decided to address equestrianism at large with a writing project, and co-authored The Compassionate Equestrian. The 25 Principles of Compassionate Equitation are becoming part of a global movement to improve welfare for equines in sport and recreation. I have limited space available for clients who wish to improve their relationship with horses and achieve personal goals in their riding and training abilities.
As an artist and photographer, I am able to blend my love for horses, running, and the environment in a visual compilation that I always hope will bring a smile to the viewer. I paint stories, and am currently enjoying painting the horses of my past, many of which were rescues. When working in advertising, my speciality is bringing a concept for a campaign or ad to life with the right location, and acquiring exceptional talent who help fulfill the creative director's vision. Art directors, take note! I'm available for location scouting, photography, and model/talent searches. I have managed budgets up to $2.5 million annually and coordinated projects for large mixed-use shopping centres.
As an athlete and coach, my background in music and dance has always been integral in my teaching and training programs. Running requires good tempo and rhythm, as does riding. Music and dance are part of a universal language that raises everyone's spirits and contributes to a positive atmosphere in which to learn and improve the body and mind. Be sure to contact me for private and/or group running and walking coaching no matter where you're starting... the couch or the competitive field.
---------- Summary of Work History ----------
My work history has been eclectic and diversified, requiring the ability to be extremely flexible, goal-oriented, quick-learning and focused. I have typically started in entry-level positions, and been able to move up in a relatively short period of time. The central themes of my work have been art, music, fashion and equestrian sports, frequently combined as projects in advertising, video, and entertainment.
In advertising, I became competent in managing tight deadlines, contract-staff, large-budgets, and full creative production. The horse industry requires extremely long hours, professional-level athleticism, and management of not just horse’s show careers and day-to-day care, but careful attention and diplomacy when dealing with their owners.
In the 1990’s my position was one of “artist-in-residence” for a computer lab that was on the cutting edge of emerging technologies that have since become industry standards and popular consumer formats. Projects in development included real-time broadband delivery of graphics and audio, digital storage mediums, and wide-area networks. I was introduced to several modalities of alternative health care and energy medicine, which I pursued as both an interested layperson and as an additional service to offer clients, in particular applied light (Low Level Laser Therapy) and EFT (tapping).
I have consistently been involved with community service groups and industry organizations, and am always eager to take courses and seminars that will upgrade my work skills and performance. Running and race walking are the most recent additions to my repertoire, and as a sport are following a similar trajectory to my career in the equine industry...first as successful competitor, then as coach and program creator.
Maintaining a great sense of humour and optimal good health are first and foremost for me personally, and as a potential catalyst for others to be so inspired.
